Rosshandler Leo was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1922. He lives in Montreal, Canada.

From 1945 to 1948, Rosshandler studied at La Escuela de la Esmeralda, Mexico City, an art school founded by the Muralist artists of that country. Thereafter, he has painted without cease while exercising functions with Museums as well as in art administration.

Many of his paintings stage biblical or historical events torn out of place and time, thus questioning the viewers’ values. Others show imaginary portraits of writers and artists, as well as still lives and landscapes.

Rosshandler has produced a body of work which he entitles post-Chinese. These are painted following traditional Chinese art practices. He wishes thereby to turn the tables on the many Chinese artists who, during the last thirty years or so, have adopted Western contemporary art styles and made their presence felt on the global art market.
